Mabon brings splashes of orange and red to the greens of summer. Fall is coming, and with it a rainbow of colors.

How do you decorate your home for Mabon? A few basics paired with harvest essentials like a cornucopia will make your home festive and witchy.

This is the time when I start to decorate my home for autumn.

I prepare my home for the spookier decor of Samhain with leaves, wreaths, and more symbols of this time of year.

Decorating your home is one of many ways to get yourself into the seasonal spirit.

If this is your first Mabon or you just need decor inspiration, here are my tips:

Use Apples

One of the most ubiquitous seasonal symbols for fall is the apple.

Either real or fake, apples can make a bright and cute option for Mabon decor.

Place a bowl of apples on your dining room table, or dry apple slices to hang on string garlands.

An apple on your altar is a wonderful offering to the gods and your ancestors at this time, too.

If you remove the core of an apple, you can use it as a candle holder for spells and rituals.

Decorate With Fresh Mabon Flowers

Go out and gather wild flowers that are blooming at this time.

If you can’t get out to the wild flowers, choose cultivated flowers like marigolds, sunflowers, pansies and chrysanthemums.

You can place the fresh flowers in vases, or dry the flowers and press them into picture frames.

Weaving fresh flowers into wreaths is another beautiful option.

Place Seasonal Gourds

Pumpkins and other gourds are coming into season at this time.

They are a youthful and fun decorating option! Everyone loves a friendly pumpkin or jack-o-lantern placed on a porch or in a window.

These are another great offering object for your altars.

Because they last longer when they aren’t carved, leave your pumpkins whole until it gets closer to Samhain.

If you want to decorate your whole pumpkins, paint faces or pretty designs on them.

Wreaths With Leaves And Acorns

Create a beautiful welcoming piece of art for your door! Wreaths are easy to make and customize for the seasons.

You can find wreath forms at the Dollar Tree or any craft store.

Weave sticks, grape vines, leaves, and flowers through the form to fill it out.

Then you can add acorns and pine cones for a seasonal touch.

Scarecrows

Scarecrows are very much linked with the harvest season.

You can make your own scarecrow dollies or buy some from almost any store that sells decor.

Place them around your home or in your garden for simple mabon decor that kids will love.

Crystals

Crystals are more than just vibrational beings that improve our lives. They can be decor, too!

Choosing the right crystals can set the mood for the entirety of Mabon.

Symbols Of Rain

For Israeli neopagans, Mabon is around the time that the weather becomes more moderate and rain becomes more common.

This is also the case in recent years in Michigan.

This is no longer a time when things become truly colder, but a time when rain becomes more abundant and the weather calms down.

Maybe that’s the case where you are, too. Maybe it isn’t.

Either way, glass beads to represent rain drops, cups of water, and other rain symbols would be appropriate on your altar at this time.

Working With Hekate During The Full Moon

During the full moon, we call upon Hekate to assist us in clearing our past, releasing our fears, and opening ourselves to new possibilities. We ask her to help us gain clarity in our lives, to help us transform our inner worlds, and to allow us to move forward with courage and confidence.

It is said that Hekate helps us to overcome obstacles and challenges that stand in our way, and to achieve our goals. In addition to being a benevolent Goddess, she is also a fierce warrior. When we summon her, we invite her to help us take charge of our lives, to lead us into battle, and to fight for justice.

I am an eclectic witch - I've been practicing since 1974. As a student of the occult, working with astrology, tarot cards, runes, and numerology, I found that this was a very comprehensive and well written text on working with Hekate during the full moon. Highly recommended. - Gail Sager
