The Best Books About Witchcraft On Scribd

Please note that posts on this site may contain affiliate links

I’ve said before that I absolutely love Scribd.

There’s just something about getting access to tons of books AND audiobooks (and more) for just one monthly price.

But do they have books about witchcraft?

Yes! Actually, I think Scribd might be better than Amazon for ebooks and audiobooks about witchcraft, paganism, and the occult.

This post will show you why!

Why Scribd Is A Witch’s Best Friend For Books

Why is Scribd better than Amazon?

Because at Amazon Kindle Unlimited and Audible, they set limits on you.

With Kindle Unlimited, you can only read KU books for free (and most of the really good books aren’t in KU).

On Audible, you only get up to three free audiobooks a month.

Even worse, Audible and Kindle Unlimited are separate subscriptions. Audible is $14.95 a month, and Kindle Unlimited is $9.99 a month.

If you want both, that’s $24.94 every month.

What does Scribd cost per month? Only $8.99, and that gives you unlimited access to their ebooks, audiobooks, articles, documents, and sheet music.

And while the selection is smaller on Scribd than on Amazon, I have been pleasantly surprised by how many big name publishers and great books you can find there.

Listed below are some of the best books on Scribd that you can find in 2023.

Which books about witchcraft are the best?

Well, that depends on what kind of reader you are. Are you a beginner? Do you already practice witchcraft? Is your goal to become a practicing witch?

Mystical Origins of the Tarot: From Ancient Roots to Modern Usage

If you have ever been interested in the occult history of the tarot, this is the perfect book to check out.

It goes all the way back to the Persian origins of tarot cards and explains how the card meanings changed over time.

Blurb:

A profusely illustrated history of the occult nature of the tarot from its origins in ancient Persia

  • Thoroughly examines the original historical source for each tarot card and how the cards’ divinatory meanings evolved from these symbols
  • Provides authentic 18th- and 19th-century spreads and divination techniques
  • Reveals the divinatory meanings of the cards as understood by diviners in the Middle Ages and Renaissance

The origins of the tarot have been lost in the mists of time. Most scholars have guessed that its origins were in China, Egypt, or India.

In Mystical Origins of the Tarot, Paul Huson has expertly tracked each symbol of the Minor Arcana to roots in ancient Persia and the Major Arcana Trump card images to the medieval world of mystery, miracle, and morality plays.

A number of tarot historians have questioned the use of the tarot as a divination tool prior to the 18th century. But the author demonstrates that the symbolic meanings of the Major Arcana were evident from the time they were first employed in the mid-15th century in the popular divination practice of sortilege.

He also reveals how the identities of the court cards in the Minor Arcana were derived from a blend of pagan and medieval sources that strongly influenced their interpretation in tarot divination.

Mystical Origins of the Tarot provides a thorough examination of the original historical source for each card and how the cards’ divinatory meanings evolved from these symbols.

Huson also provides concise and practical card-reading methods designed by the cartomancers of the 18th and 19th centuries and reveals the origins of the card interpretations promoted by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and A. E. Waite.

Books On Shamanism

Shaman Pathways – Elen of the Ways: British Shamanism – Following the Deer Trods

I love this book! It’s beautifully written and details all the way we’ve strayed from the path of nature.

We stopped following the footsteps of the reindeer, and everything has become chaotic since.

If you only read one book on this list, please let it be this one.

Blurb:

Elen of the Ways is about the ancient shamanism of Britain. Elen Sentier grew up in a long family lineage of following the Deer Trods; in this book she tells of the old, forgotten ways of our ancestors.

Through her own experience, stories, practical exercises and journeys with the deer, Elen takes you into the realm of the Boreal Forest, of which Britain is a part, to show how the Deer Goddess is the spirit of this land.

To walk the deer trods is to realise how close and connected you are to nature and everything in this beautiful world which we share with our non-human brethren.

You learn, too, that our everyday world and otherworld are intertwined. Elen of the Ways is both here and there at the same time. You will find her everywhere.

The Norse Shaman: Ancient Spiritual Practices of the Northern Tradition

This book helps you connect with Norse deities and explores Norse shamanism.

Based on archaeological evidence and the few written records from Iceland, this is a great resource for Norse shamans.

Blurb:

An experiential guide to the wisdom preserved in Europe’s far north

  • Includes shamanic journeys to connect with deities and your ancestral shamans
  • Provides step-by-step instructions to prepare for and conduct a seiðr ceremony
  • Draws on archaeological evidence and surviving written records from Iceland
  • Reveals the long tradition of female shamans in northern European shamanism

Shamanism is humanity’s oldest spiritual tradition. In much of the Western world, the indigenous pre-Christian spiritual practices have been lost. Yet at the northern fringes of Europe, Christianity did not displace the original shamanic practices until the end of the Viking age.

Remnants of Norse shamanic spirituality have survived in myths, folk traditions, and written records from Iceland, providing many clues about the ancient European shaman’s world, especially when examined in conjunction with other shamanic cultures in northern Eurasia, such as the Sami and the tribes of Siberia.

Reconstructing the shamanic practices of the hunter-gatherers of Scandinavia, Evelyn Rysdyk explores the evolution of Norse shamanism from its earliest female roots to the pre-Christian Viking Age.

She explains how to enter Yggdrasil, the World Tree, to travel to other realms and provides shamanic journeys to connect with the ancestral shamans of your family tree, including the Norse goddess Freyja, the very first shaman.

She offers exercises to connect with the ancient goddesses of fate, the Norns, and introduces the overnight wilderness quest of útiseta for reconnecting with the powers of nature.

She explains the key concepts of Ørlög and Wyrd–the two most powerful forces that shape human lives–and provides exercises for letting go of harmful behavior patterns and transforming simple knowledge into profound wisdom by connecting with Óðinn.

Thoroughly examining the shamanic rituals of seiðr, the oracular magic of the Nordic cultures, the author provides step-by-step instructions to prepare for and conduct a seiðr ceremony, including creating your own seiðr staff and hood, and explores the ancestral use of shamanic songs or varðlokur to accompany the ceremony.

Woven throughout these exercises, Rysdyk provides archaeological evidence from Neolithic sites supporting the long tradition of venerating wise women, grandmothers, and mothers in ancient cultures and the important role of female shamans at the heart of northern European shamanism.

Providing an accessible guide for anyone trying to fulfill their shamanic callings, these powerful rituals can provide personal healing and a clear path for finding our way into a harmonious relationship with the natural world.

Books On Herbalism

Magical Herbalism: The Secret Craft of the Wise

I love this book.

This is a must have for any herbalist’s bookshelf.

This focuses on the magickal benefits of herbs rather than medical, but it’s still so informative and interesting.

Even if it weren’t free to read on Scribd, this would be a must buy for me.

Blurb:

Natural magic utilizes the world around us for magical purposes. Herbs are one of the most important tools for natural magic, and the best introduction to this system is found in Scott Cunningham’s Magical Herbalism.

This book presents a complete system of magic using herbs. You will learn the theory of magic and the tools you’ll need. Then you’ll get countless techniques for using herbs for magic.

Need a protection method? “Pick several protective herbs and bind the stems together with red thread, then hang them up. This practice dates back to Babylonian times.”

You’ll find a list of over 115 herbs that details their magical powers, so you can easily find which ones are protective in nature.

How about a divination using herbs? “Get a small quantity of dried patchouly, mugwort, or wormwood. Crumble the herb between your hands until it is finely diminished.

Next, pour it into a small square pan (glass or ceramic). Light yellow candles and place the pan on your working area.

Close your eyes, extend the index finger of your weak hand, and gently touch the center of the pan with its tip. Move it at random in the pan, shifting from one direction to another … Now, remove your finger, open your eyes, and interpret the symbols you have just written in the herb.”

All of the techniques, rituals, spells, talismans, healing methods, and charms are this easy.

And most importantly, they work! You’ll also find how to make and use incenses, scented oils, perfumes, fluid condensers, and so much more.

Here is your chance to work with a beautiful and simple system. Give it a try! You won’t be disappointed.

Abominable Science!: Origins of the Yeti, Nessie, and Other Famous Cryptids

Another fun book about something strange, this one takes you through the history of the monsters from around the world.

Learn about bigfoot, sea monsters, and lesser known cryptids like the Congo dinosaur

Blurb:

Throughout our history, humans have been captivated by mythic beasts and legendary creatures.

Tales of Bigfoot, the Yeti, and the Loch Ness monster are part of our collective experience.

Now comes a book from two dedicated investigators that explores and elucidates the fascinating world of cryptozoology.

Daniel Loxton and Donald R. Prothero have written an entertaining, educational, and definitive text on cryptids, presenting the arguments both for and against their existence and systematically challenging the pseudoscience that perpetuates their myths.

After examining the nature of science and pseudoscience and their relation to cryptozoology, Loxton and Prothero take on Bigfoot; the Yeti, or Abominable Snowman, and its cross-cultural incarnations; the Loch Ness monster and its highly publicized sightings; the evolution of the Great Sea Serpent; and Mokele Mbembe, or the Congo dinosaur.

They conclude with an analysis of the psychology behind the persistent belief in paranormal phenomena, identifying the major players in cryptozoology, discussing the character of its subculture, and considering the challenge it poses to clear and critical thinking in our increasingly complex world.

The Disinformation Guide to Ancient Aliens, Lost Civilizations, Astonishing Archaeology and Hidden History

I love all of the Disinformation guides, and this one delivers.

In this book you’ll find theories on the beginning of civilization, deep sea mysteries, and the high strangeness of outer space.

Blurb:

Where did “modern” civilization begin? What lies beneath the waves? Do myths describe interstellar impact?

How’d they lift that stone? Was the Ark of the Covenant a mechanical device? Were there survivors of an Atlantean catastrophe? Who really discovered the “New” World?

“Hidden history” continues to fascinate an ever wider audience. In this massive compendium, editor Preston Peet brings together an allstar cast of contributors to question established wisdom about the history of the world and its civilizations.

Peet and anthology contributors guide us through exciting archeological adventures and treasure hunts, ancient mysteries, lost or rediscovered technologies, and assorted “Forteana,” using serious scientific studies and reports, scholarly research, and some plain old fringe material, as what is considered “fringe” today is often hard science tomorrow.

Beyond the Secret: Spiritual Power and the Law of Attraction

The Secret was the book that brought the law of attraction to the public’s attention.

This book takes you beyond the concepts of The Secret and helps you to use that power in a way that benefits more than just yourself.

Blurb:

The Law of Attraction tells us that we can have anything we want. Or does it? How do we know if we’re using it for the right purpose?

In Beyond The Secret, psychologist and Law of Attraction coach, Lisa Love offers answers to these questions, answers she discovered during her own spiritual quest to understand the Law of Attraction. She explains the difference between using the Law in an egotistical rather than a spiritual way. She shows how to use the Law of Attraction as a tool for spiritual growth, psychological integration, and, ultimately, connecting with Spirit.

Beyond the Secret offers a ten-step process for spiritual attraction. Love provides readers with the basic principles and philosophies that explain the process along with techniques to help readers implement each step effectively. She shares insights, stories, and examples that reveal how spiritual attraction can be used to create an abundant and satisfying life.

Audiobooks for Witches

These audiobooks are great starting places for modern witches.

You’ll find that the audiobook selection is different from the ebook selection on Scribd.

This is largely because of exclusivity deals that some authors and publishers make with Amazon for ebooks.

Those deals don’t necessarily apply to audiobooks, so you can find witchy audiobooks that aren’t on Scribd in ebook form.

I love listening to audiobooks about witchcraft and paganism while I am cooking or cleaning.

It’s a great way for me to do the boring stuff while still being entertained and learning about witchcraft.

Here are my beginner occult audiobook recommendations:

Reading Is The Key To Becoming A More Powerful Witch

I love reading.

I just wish I had more time to do it.

These books about witchcraft are only a few of the books I would recommend new witches and pagans read.

  5. You may just fall in love with the world of witchcraft. Maybe you already feel drawn towards the occult. Perhaps you’ve always been curious about the supernatural. Whatever your motivation, you’ll find plenty of inspiration in the pages of a book about witchcraft.
  6. You may use witchcraft to solve problems. Sometimes life gets tough, and we need a little extra help. A little bit of magic may come in handy here.
  7. You may simply want to learn more about the history of witchcraft. From ancient times until today, witches have played a significant role in society. Learn about their origins and contributions.

Witchcraft is a fascinating topic.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to learn about witchcraft?

But there’s a lot to learn. And if you’re going to learn anything, you’d better learn from the best. So I hope you read every one of the books I’ve listed above.
