Signs Of Imbalance Or Blockage In Your Root Chakra

Please note that posts on this site may contain affiliate links

Do you know the signs of imbalance in your root chakra? This is your base chakra, and your sense of wellbeing starts here. If this chakra is unbalanced or blocked, you’ll find yourself feeling apathetic, low energy, stressed, anxious, and angry.

The root chakra helps you feel safe and secure to grow, transform and take risks. If you’re trying to make a change, move forward, or just feel more confident and secure in yourself and your abilities – you need a strong root chakra.

Since this is where your energy begins, it’s the most important chakra to balance first. If you feel like you’re always drained of energy , start by clearing out the clutter around your root chakra.

Emotional Symptoms Of Root Chakra Imbalance

This chakra deals directly with your deepest emotions. Emotions from your memories and earliest experiences in life will be important factors in your base chakra. If you had a healthy and secure infancy, you will probably have a healthier root chakra than someone that did not.

If you’re experiencing emotional symptoms like depression, resentment, anger, fear, jealousy, or guilt, your root chakra is probably out of balance.

These are some of the emotional and mental signs of a base chakra that is blocked or unbalanced:

Physical Symptoms Of Root Chakra Imbalance

The physical symptoms of a blocked or unbalanced base chakra are usually easier to spot. They will manifest as blockages in your lower back, pelvis, and sexual energy.

If the base chakra is not flowing freely, it can start to affect your reproductive system. You may begin to have reproductive issues like pain or fertility problems. You may suffer from constipation, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, or painful sex.

A lack of blood flow to the lower back may cause sciatica, and clogged energy in your sexual organs or reproductive system can cause impotence or vaginal pain. Unbalanced root chakra energy can also cause or worsen other physical ailments.

What Can Cause Root Chakra Imbalance?

People who feel emotionally and physically out of balance usually have a mix of physical and emotional symptoms. So what can cause this?

War, fear, abuse, financial insecurity, and unhealthy families are just a few of the emotional traumas that can scar you and knock your root chakra out of balance. These traumas create a feeling of powerlessness or being unsafe in the world.

War: War is traumatic, and those who survive wars will often experience painful emotions, physical ailments, and an overall feeling of being unsafe.

Fear: Fear stems from a lack of safety and security. When you’re afraid, you never feel safe, and the root chakra can start to deteriorate under a constant bombardment of fear.

Abuse Or Financial Insecurity: A bad family environment with abuse or constant financial stress can lead to root chakra imbalance or blockages.

Famine: Long periods of hunger can cause lifelong food issues. From eating disorders to food hoarding, many people never heal from the emotional scars of hunger.

Natural Disasters: Being caught in an earthquake or flood can overwhelm the root chakra and cause long-term issues with safety, security, and grounding.

Negative Childhood: If your parents were absent or abusive, your root chakra will likely suffer. All of this can lead to root chakra imbalances that affect you into adulthood.

Emotional Trauma: Bad experiences with sex, love, or your body can cause lasting emotional trauma. If you’ve had a bad experience with someone close to you, this can cause an imbalance in the root chakra and emotional symptoms.

Anxiety: Constant stress or anxiety can damage the root chakra. You may have panic attacks, feel uneasy physically and mentally, and have trouble sleeping, for example.

How To Heal Your Root Chakra

If your root chakra is out of balance, you’ll suffer from low energy, depression, and apathy. To fix these problems, you have to fix what’s preventing the root chakra from flowing freely.

Improve the flow of energies between your root and other chakras by doing these healing techniques for the root chakra:

Movement: Your root chakra responds to physical activity, so do as much as you can. Hike, jog, dance, or do yoga and pilates to get this energy flowing.

Colour Therapy: Wear or meditate on the color red, which is energetically tied to the root chakra. Red can help reduce fears that are causing blockages in this area.

Massage: Get your partner or a friend to massage you from head to toe. Working the root chakra and its surrounding meridians is one of the best ways to heal it.

Root Chakra Affirmation: Make an affirmation that deals with your fears and insecurities around safety and security. The words “I am safe” work great for this exercise as they link your mind and body into feeling secure.

Get back to your roots and spend time anywhere that feels like “home.” This might be your old family home where you grew up, your hometown, or just spending time doing a hobby you loved as a child.

Find the source of trauma in your life and let it be a catalyst to opening your root chakra. If you’re stuck in a rut of old fears, you can face them and make peace with them. If you’re feeling stuck in life, clarify what direction you want to move in and take your first steps forward.

Take care of your physical body, and begin a process of self-care. Start a healthy lifestyle and make sure that you eat right, take vitamins, and exercise. You’ll put your body in a state where it can store the rich energy needed to heal the root chakra.

Try to find a sense of safety and a sense of security in your life. Find a place where you can feel safe, or surround yourself with those family and friends that make you feel safe.

Create more stability in your life so that your root chakra can start to flow again. Take more time for reflection and spend less time doing the daily grind. This will give you some breathing room so the root chakra can start to flow freely once again.

You can do a root chakra meditation to help balance this energy center.

Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Breathe deeply into your belly and exhale fully. Visualize yourself sitting at the base of a tall tree. Feel the energy that is all around you come up through the roots of the tree, into your feet, and up into your spine.

Imagine yourself sending that energy back down through your feet and out of the top of your head. Think about everything that causes you to feel safe and secure at this moment. Feel the energy moving freely between your root chakra and other chakras. Repeat your affirmation, and visualize yourself as the person you want to be in 5 years.

You can also use a crystal near your root chakra to help clear imbalances:

Rub a green aventurine crystal on the base of your spine or hold it against the lower back for five minutes daily. This will help clear the root chakra and help you feel more balanced.

Choose a sapphire crystal to encourage spiritual grounding, and place it near your base chakra to bring healing and stability.

You can also hold an amethyst crystal over the base chakra for 5 minutes daily. Amethyst is good for supporting healthy relationships, so it’s also great for strengthening your root chakra.

Address any sense of lack in your life. Recognize that you have a lot to offer to the world and deserve love and abundance. Modify your self-talk so that you don’t undermine yourself or see yourself as lacking.
