Simple Bread Recipe

Perfect for offerings to the dead during Halloween / samhain

This simple bread recipe is perfect for Samhain. Make a loaf for yourself, and a loaf to leave for the spirits that fly free while the veil has been lifted.

Simple bread is perfect for learning about baking, and can be modified to suit any situation.

This easy-to-make quickbread will keep you safe from evil spirits on All Hallows’ Eve! It’s also great with jam or butter spread inside it.

Ingredients
430g bread flour
Some extra flour for your hands and the pan

2 tsp instant yeast
2 tsp salt
360ml cool water

Instructions
Mix the dry ingredients together
Add the water

Gently mix together until all the flour is moist and the dough is sticky
Shape the dough into a ball in the bowl

Cover the dough in the bowl and leave at room temperature
Allow to rise for 2 to 3 hours

You can put the risen dough in the fridge for up to 3 days for added flavor
Dust a baking sheet with flour

Dust a counter or other work space with flour
Turn the dough out onto the counter

Cut the dough in half
Place the dough halves onto the floured baking sheet
Shape them into 2 long loaves, like a baguette

Cover loosely and let rest for 45 minutes
Preheat the oven to 475°F
Score the bread loaves

Place in the center rack
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes
If the loaves sound hollow when tapped, the bread is done

Remove from oven
Allow to cool for 5 minutes before slicing

Give one loaf to the spirits or the gods you worship and enjoy the second loaf.
