Find out herbs for divination and psychic powers! Hone your intuition and encourage psychic powers with these easy to use herbs for eclectic witches.

Divination is “the art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers.”

Well-known forms of divination include astrology, palmistry, the tarot, scrying (gazing into a crystal ball, magick mirror, or some other reflective surface), runes, I Ching, and ogham.

With the possible exception of astrology, effective divination requires a certain degree of psychic ability or receptivity.

While there are some people who are able to access their natural psychic abilities easily, most of us had them squashed at some point in childhood, and must rediscover them as adults.

This is where herbs can help.

The herbs listed below either have properties that lend themselves to divination, increase the practitioners’ natural psychic abilities, or help them attain a state in which they are receptive to receiving information from supernatural sources.

Psychic herbs for divination can help you to use your crystal ball for scrying.

How The Herbs Will Be Introduced

History of Divination and Herbs

Divination has been an essential practice in many cultures, offering insights into the future, understanding the present, and interpreting the past. In ancient China, divination methods like the I Ching (Book of Changes) and oracle bones were prevalent. Oracle bones, often made from tortoise shells or ox shoulder blades, were heated until they cracked, with the patterns interpreted as messages from ancestors or deities. The I Ching, a complex text of 64 hexagrams, has been used for thousands of years to provide guidance and has influenced Chinese philosophy, medicine, and cosmology.

In ancient Greece and Rome, divination was a bridge between the mortal and divine realms. Oracles, such as the Oracle of Delphi, were consulted for guidance on personal and political matters. The Greeks and Romans believed that divination could reveal the will of the gods and guide human actions.

Indigenous cultures worldwide also integrated divination into their spiritual practices. Methods such as shamanic rituals, animal-based divination, and spirit communication have been used to gain insights and connect with the natural and spiritual worlds. These practices highlight the universal human desire to understand the unknown and seek guidance from higher powers.

Safety Precautions

When using herbs for divination, it’s essential to handle them safely, especially those that are toxic or can cause allergic reactions. Here are some key safety tips:

  • Identify Herbs Correctly: Always ensure you correctly identify herbs, especially those with similar names but different properties. For example, some types of “bay” are toxic.
  • Consult Reliable Sources: Use trusted herbal guides or consult with experienced herbalists to avoid misuse.
  • Avoid Ingestion of Toxic Herbs: Some herbs, like broom and camphor, should not be ingested as they are poisonous.
  • Allergy Testing: Conduct a patch test to check for allergic reactions before using any herb on your skin.
  • Proper Storage: Store herbs in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve their potency and prevent mold growth.

Elements of synthwave with flowing neon liquid and risograph effects give the impression of being made from white light. The image is foggy and tightly cropped to focus on the woman, creating a mysterious and minimalist aesthetic.

Herbal Combinations

Combining herbs can enhance their divinatory effects. Here are a few suggested combinations:

  • Acacia and Sandalwood: Burn together to stimulate psychic powers and create a conducive atmosphere for divination.
  • Bay and Frankincense: Burn for visions and prophetic dreams. Bay leaves can also be placed under your pillow to induce dreams.
  • Bistort and Frankincense: Combine these for burning during divination to increase psychic abilities.

Herbal Infusions and Teas

Creating herbal teas and infusions can help promote psychic powers. Here are some recipes:

  • Borage Tea: Use the leaves and flowers of borage to make an infusion. Drink this tea to induce psychic abilities.
  • Bay Leaf Infusion: Brew bay leaves in hot water. This tea can be consumed to stimulate clairvoyance.
  • Dandelion Root Tea: Roast and grind the root of dandelion to make an infusion that promotes psychic powers when drunk.

Herbal Incense Recipes

Burning herbal incense can enhance divination practices. Here are some recipes:

  • Frankincense and Mastic: Combine these resins to boost psychic powers and create a focused atmosphere for divination.
  • Mugwort and Sandalwood: Burn this combination to enhance psychic abilities, especially during scrying rituals.

Planetary Alignments and Herbs

Planetary alignments can affect the potency of herbs used in divination. For instance, herbs ruled by the Sun, such as bay and frankincense, are most potent when used on a Sunday or during the Sun’s astrological hour. Similarly, herbs ruled by the Moon, like camphor and buchu, are best used on a Monday or during the Moon’s hour. These alignments can amplify the herbs’ natural properties and enhance their effectiveness in divination practices. For more details, see our post on herbal astrological correspondences.

Common Misconceptions

There are several myths about using herbs for divination that need debunking:

  • Herbs Alone Provide Answers: Herbs are tools that enhance psychic abilities, but they do not provide answers on their own. The practitioner’s intuition and psychic receptivity play crucial roles.
  • All Herbs Are Safe: Not all herbs are safe for all purposes. Some are toxic if ingested or can cause allergic reactions.
  • Immediate Results: Using herbs for divination often requires practice and patience. Immediate results are not guaranteed.

Herbal Journaling

Keeping a journal can be an invaluable tool when working with herbs for divination. Here are some tips:

  • Record Experiences: Document your experiences with different herbs, including the methods used and the outcomes.
  • Track Combinations: Note any combinations of herbs and their effects to understand which works best for you.
  • Reflect on Insights: Regularly review your journal to reflect on your growth and any patterns or insights that emerge.

Journaling helps in tracking progress and deepening your understanding of how different herbs affect your divinatory practices.
