These herbs are the perfect addition to spells for passion, lust, love, anger, curses, or energy. Fire is a dangerous element that is both creative and destructive.

DO NOT INGEST THESE PLANTS unless you know for sure that it isn’t poisonous, doesn’t have any pesticides on it, and won’t interact badly with anything else that you have taken or will take. Be smart and stay safe.

Allspice:

  • Gender: Male
  • Planet: Mars
  • Uses: Can be used as an incense / perfume or as a talisman / charm.
  • Allspice is useful in spells that call money or luck to you, and for healing spells. This herb also can fire your spells up with more determination and energy.
  • Burn crushed allspice to attract money. Use in herbal baths for healing.

Amaranth:

  • Gender: Female
  • Planet: Saturn
  • Uses: Can be used as a talisman / charm.
  • Used in healing spells, invisibility, healing broken hearts, summoning spirits and protection from bullets. Known as the Flower of Immortality. Often used to decorate images of deities. Wearing a crown of amaranth is said to speed healing or render you invisible.
  • Can be used to call upon the dead. If carried, it can mend a broken heart.
  • To protect yourself from bullets, pull up a whole Amaranth plant on a Friday and leave an offering to the plant. Then fold it into a piece of white cloth and wear it against your chest.
  • Also used in pagan burial rites.

Anemone:

  • Gender: Male

  • The flowers are used in healing charms. Carry them to protect against illnesses. The flowers can also be used to color Ostara eggs.

Angelica:

  • Gender: Male

  • This is a powerful protection herb. It creates a barrier from negative energy and spirits, and is used in healing or exorcism incense. Scattered around, it will purify and protect an area.

Asafoetida:

  • Gender: Male
  • Planet: Mars
  • Uses: Can be used as an incense / perfume or as a talisman / charm.
  • Though it smells bad when burned, this herb is powerful and used for protection and banishing negativity. The smell can induce vomiting.
  • Used with garlic, this herb will dispel disease and evil. It also keeps fevers and colds at bay.
  • Can be used to induce prophetic dreams. Burned, it can be used in exorcism rituals.
  • Used by those working with the Horned God.

Ash:

  • Gender: Male

  • Good for invincibility spells, protection from drowning, general protection and luck. Carve a solar cross out of ash for protection from drowning.
  • Burn an ash log at Yule to bring prosperity. This tree was sacred to the Druids and often was what their wands were made of. Use the wands for healing and solar magic.

Avens:

Basil:

  • Basil is associated with initiations. It can also be used to invoke salamanders or communicate with dragons.

Carnation:

Celandine:

Garlic:

  • Sacred to the goddess Hecate. Leave at crossroads and eat on Her festival days, especially if you regularly work with Her.
  • Medicinally and magically, it’s seen as a healing plant. This is probably one thing you always want to have in your kitchen. This plant was used to ward against the plague and, when rubbed against your body and thrown into running water, it will draw out illnessed.
  • Promotes lust in a relationship and guards against theft. If you tend to be a hot headed or easily-angered person, try to avoid garlic as this will only exacerbate your problem. Also brings courage.
  • Uses also include protection, exorcism, vampire repellant, and purification. Carry when in boats or traveling over water to prevent drowning. Garlic flowers can be used on altars for protection.
  • Wards off all negative things, including magic and spirits.
  • Hanged in the home, it will bring a family together and ward off the envy of others. It will also strengthen your willpower and ward off bad weather.

Gentian:

  • Gender: Male

Ginger:

  • Carve your wish into the root before throwing it into running water. Ginseng can also substitute for mandrake.

Hawthorn:

  • Gender: Male

  • Uses: Can be used as a talisman / charm.
  • The goddess Cardea casts spells with the Hawthorn. Place the leaves on your altar to honor Her.
  • Protects against lightning. The leaves can be used in a sachet for protection and to increase your bounty when fishing. Hawthorns are used to decorate maypoles and in weddings and handfastings to increase fertility.
  • It’s said that witches used to dance beneath hawthorns, and modern witches still do. Dancing beneath the hawthorn can draw fertility, chastity, fairies and prosperity to you. Wash your face with the dew left on the hawthorn in the morning to increase your beauty.
  • Carry the leaves with you when interviewing for a job to increase your chance of getting it. Place them in your business to draw in customers. It also wards against depression.
  • Hawthorns are sacred to fairies, so be respectful of them. You don’t want to incur their wrath.

Heliotrope:

  • Gender: Male

  • Improves marriages. Increases dreams and your chance of remembering them. Increases luck. Will make you feel and seem more masculine when carried and can act as an aphrodisiac. The crowns that grooms wear during weddings and handfastings are traditionally made of Holly.
  • Use in crafts during Yule. The wood can also be used as the handle for ritual knives. Sprinkle holly water on newborns to protect them.
  • Don’t eat the berries, because they are poisonous. You can, however, make a dye with them.

Horseradish:

  • Gender: Male
  • Planet: Mars
  • Uses: Can be used as a talisman / charm.
  • Purifying. Is used for exorcisms.

Hyssop:

  • Gender: Male
  • Planet: Jupiter
  • Uses: Can be used as an incense or in an oil / bath.
  • Though they share a name, this plant is not the hyssop from the Bible. That hyssop is said to be oregano.
  • Used in baths, sachets, and incenses, hyssop will protect and purify you. Hyssop is the most widely used purification herb. Use hyssop in a bunch and then sweep your altar for it to prepare for ceremonial rites.
  • Will protect your home from burglars. Lay the leaves on wounds to promote healing and fight off any infections.
  • Use to consecrate your tools and any items made of tin.

Juniper:

  • Gender: Male
  • Planet: Sun
  • Uses: Can be used as an incense or a charm / talisman.
  • Juniper is another source of allergies.
  • Carrying a sprig of juniper will protect you from accidents. Attracts good energy to you.
  • Juniper was one of the earliest incenses used by Mediterranean witches. It was made with the leaves and dried berries of juniper. The Druids used juniper with thyme in incenses for visions.
  • Wear the berries on a string to attract lovers. Carry the berries to increase male fertility. Juniper oil will draw money and prosperity to you.
  • Grow juniper around your home, especially near doors, to protect from thieves. Carried or burned, juniper will increase psychic powers and break hexes and curses.

Leek:

Mandrake:

  • Gender: Male

  • Use this root in ceremonies honoring crone goddesses.
  • This is one of the most well-known magical plants. Placed in the home, the mandrake is a protective charm.
  • Women can carry this root for help in getting pregnant. It can also be used in love spells.
  • Place a whole plant on your altar to protect your home. Can also be used in exorcising magic or to protect against demons. Wear it to preserve your health. Money placed beside a mandrake root is said to make that money double.
  • Place the root in water and leave it under the sky for one entire lunar cycle, from new moon to full. It will then be ready for exorcisms.
  • Like other nightshades, mandrake is poisonous. The only part that isn’t poisonous is the fruit. The effects are similar to nightshade and henbane. Ancient civilizations thought the root looks like a human, and this plant is often thought to be used in witchcraft. The Romans believed it could cure demonic possession and the Greeks used it in love potions.

Mapacho:

  • Gender: Male

  • Uses: Can be used as a talisman / charm or medicinally.
  • This is a tobacco plant! It’s also known as Indian Tobacco or Wild Tobacco, and is a very strong variety.
  • Tobacco is, of course, very addictive. When faced with a choice between eating the leaves or smoking a cigarette, you might want to choose smoking the cigarette because the leaves are much worse for your health: they contain more nicotine and can cause stomach cramps, sweating, difficulty breathing, weakness, seizures and even death. Even skin contact can be dangerous.

Marigold:

  • Gender: Male

  • The flower, when placed under your pillow or near your head at night, will induce clairvoyant dreams.
  • When carried, it will make people respect and admire you. Makes legal matters go to your benefit. Helps you find stolen property with visions.
  • These flowers in a vase can send a surge of energy and happiness throughout anyone in the same room as them. Used in rituals related to death, it will add a loving touch. Nettle:

  • Though these plants often look harmless, they have fine hairs on them that can sting you. Be careful when handling nettles.
  • An ancient herb used for protection. It can be used to send back a curse or evil by sprinkling it around the home or carrying it in a sachet or amulet. Dispels darkness.
